Protect the Protest: An Attack on D.C. is an Attack on Us All

Breach Collective is a member of the Protect the Protest coalition and a leading organization on the coalition’s communications working group.

Movements for climate and worker justice rely on our constitutional right to protest. Across history, protest has been how communities have won cleaner environments and safer workplaces. Without the ability to organize and speak out, these struggles would not be possible.

That’s why we are a member of the Protect the Protest coalition, and why we share our coalition partners’ alarm over the Trump administration's recent deployment of National Guard troops, federal agents, and armored vehicles into Washington D.C. Even more concerning, the administration has seized control of the city’s police force, stripping D.C. residents of their hard-won right to self-govern.

Officials claim these actions are about public safety, but in actuality this is authoritarian overreach and an attempt to silence dissent. As a member of the Protect the Protest coalition, we condemn this blatant abuse of power. We know that attacks on protest in one place ripple out to affect us all.

“Protest is not a crime. Militarization does not equal safety.”
